Maesa japonica (Thunb.) Moritzi et Zoll.
Family: PrimulaceaeJapanese: イズセンリョウ (伊豆千両) [Izu Senryō]
This is the more conspicuous of two Maesa species in Yakushima. Sprays of branches covered in small white flowers often dangle into the roads.
